Do It Yourself Shoe Clips

It's been a couple of years since I started noticing the trend on Etsy for Shoe Clips.  I think it's brilliant of course, and some of them are quite reasonable.  Here are a few of the shoe clips shops I love

Buuuuuut, I'm a do-it-yourself-er to the core, and I wanted to try making my own.

So here's what I used:

shoe clips
E-6000
ribbon
fabric
plastic cameos
glass beads
needle & thread

Shoe clips are very inexpensive and available on Etsy.  Here's a link for some at GSboutique
It's about $4.20 for 20 pieces.  I recommend buying them and then having your friends over for a girls' craft night.

I used two pairs of shoes for this project.  The first was a pair of champagne colored satin ballet flats from Charlotte Russe and started by tying a bow out of pale pink seam binding ribbon.  Then I ran a couple of stitches through the center to keep the bow tied.

Next I chose two 18x13mm plastic cameos in carnelian and put them in a bezeled setting with the top loop folded down.  I sewed the top loop to the ribbon.  You don't need to have a setting here.  You can glue the cameo directly to the ribbon.  Then I glued the ribbon to the clip.

Voila!  Lovely shoe clips for less than $5.00 and only took me about 15 min.

The second was my burgundy heels from ModCloth.  Since these shoes have a center strap I had to position the clip to the side.  First I twisted the fabric into a rose shape and sewed all the way around.  I did it rather quickly as this was just a test run.

Next I selected the beads I wanted and added a glass jewel from some earrings to each rosette.  The jewel has a ring at the top, so I buried it under the beads.

Last step was to attach the clip and then glue on the beads.  High-temp hot glue would also work for this, but I find it more difficult for smaller items like beads.
Again this took about 15 min for the completed look.

If you give this a try, post your pics.  I'd love to see your creations.
