A Lakeside View

I love the lake and it's the time of year when people literally live at the lakes and beaches around the world...well, in the northern hemisphere anyway.  I don't even need a boat as long as there are board walks and picnic tables, I'm a happy girl.  It also happens to be that time of year (meaning my birthday is coming up) when I challenge myself to do something I've always wanted to do but, for whatever reason, whether it's fear, finances, or timing, I have never done.  And it has to be something just for me.
This year I decided to take the plunge and go blonde.  I've thought about it, even bought the supplies for it once, and just never had the guts to go through with it.  I didn't want it to look horrible, or worse, for my hair to get fried and fall out.
Last year my teenage niece came for a visit after having bleached her hair and about a week after she left I noticed a strange sheen to the rug in the room where she'd been staying.  It turned out to be her hair--broken bits, covering everything--because it was so damaged from the bleach.  Her hair didn't look bad when I saw her, but this new rug cover of breakage still scared me enough to toss my bleaching kit away.
This is my year for blonde.  With the help of the knowledgeable clerk at Sally's Beauty Supply, I bought another two part solution kit and enlisted the help of two friends to try to work as quickly as possible so my hair would bleach evenly.  It didn't, by the way, even with their help, but I can't complain, they did their best, and I think it turned out pretty well.  Plus, it saved me the $160 salon visit and $50 monthly follow-ups.
So, now that I've done my challenging thing, I have to say my fears weren't totally unfounded.  My hair is dry and crunchy and in spite of all the conditioner masks and leave in oils, I'm beginning to see a halo of breakage around my head.  It's not bad enough to make me get it all buzzed off pixie style--yet.  I think I'd like to keep this color for a couple of months, then go red for autumn, and then maybe work my way back to my natural brown by winter.

  1. Wow, I would never have thought blonde would look good on you, but you truly look great in any color hair ! (Although I like the auburn best...)
